  Work List Past & Future Modifications

This list will be added to as I remember items that need to be added, or remember past travesties of the DPO.

Deskription Done by When
Based on Spitfire Mk3 (Commission Number 2FD 33683), the following modifications were made:
  • Original dash is cut off, leaving a thin lip of metal. A new dash is fabricated to hold the GT6 instruments. In a new approach to weight reduction no metal is added behind the dash, the wood is screwed to the remaining metal lip left by the old dash;
  • GT6 Mk 2 bonnet is fitted;
  • Triumph 2000 engine mated to a GT6 box is slotted in to chassis, raised on custom mounts (technical term for great chunks of metal that barely serve purpose) to clear sump, as this has been fitted with home made baffle (one day I must remove the engine to see this marvel);
  • GT6 like radiator fabricated and fitted;
  • Later model Spitfire/GT6 seats with headrests are fitted;
DPO Before my purchase
Fabricated metal for new dash & secured steering column. My father & I Post purchase
Sorted initial wiring problems (more to come - there are ongoing problems) My father & I Post purchase
Sourced & installed centre console Me Post purchase
Fitted GT6 front suspension and renew all bolts, bushes Me 2000
Fitted new steering column bushes, painted steering column and recharge battery (bloody thing was flat) Me May 2001
Gave in, stripped car for chassis mods and partial restoration.
Future plans are roughly to fit rotoflex rear, saloon type overdrive, check over engine and get it ready for unleaded and to repair and repaint chassis/body and put it all back together again. I'd like to get it on the road again - it's been off the road for a while now.
