My Spitfire/GT6 Restoration
OK, so this isn't a full restoration, more just a quick road-worthiness fix, but this is the first issue and I didn't have any reader contributions of the trials & tribulations of restoring a GT6/Spitfire. Watch this space. [more]

Again - My Spitfire/GT6 Hybrid
The first feature car has to be mine of course. It is a real bitsa, a Spitfire Mk3 body, GT6 Mk2 bonnet, seats and instrumentation and a 2000 engine. Not to mention the bodges that have been done to it over the years - but I have plans for the beastie. [more]

Triumph GT6 Ezine Feature Car - My Spitfire/GT6 Hybrid
My Spitfire/GT6 Hybrid
My Spitfire/GT6 Hybrid
This is one of the 2 Triumphs I currently own (the other is a Stag). On the registration it is listed as a GT6 convertible, but it is a real "bits & pieces" car. The body & chassis (including suspension and brakes) and hardtop are all Spitfire Mk3. The bonnet, instruments, seats and some of the interior is GT6. The engine is out of a 2000, but appears to have a 2.5 head. But it is all Triumph.

This car was bought very much with the heart, as it is full of bodges (see the Restoration section in this issue for the full rundown). I have no regrets about buying it though (OK, maybe the price) as it is a great looking car and it goes like there is no tomorrow. I've had a lot of fun in this car, and I have a lot of plans for this car.

I have purchased a complete set of GT6 Mk2 suspension and brakes, which will be fitted to the car when time allows. I also have plans to fit an overdrive gearbox (once I find one) as it was originally fitted with one. The engine is running fine, but I want to pull it and check what has been done to it, especially as it is supposed to have a baffled sump. It is currently running standard intake & exhaust, so the plan is to fit extractors and triple Webers (I just love the sound of Webers at full suck).

The guy who sold me the car told me that the car has a racing history in Australia, which I don't quite believe, but if anybody knows any different please let me know. Unfortunately I haven't got the commission number with me as the car is in Canberra & I live in Sydney (I only have a single garage). I'd also like to find out the make of mags as I've seen them on a number of cars from the 70s.

Update: The cars commission number is 2FD 33683 and has an additional plate from Australian Motor Industries Ltd with the Body Number SPO 203. The mags are Cosmic 2's - but I'd still like to know more about them. I've also now spoken to someone who knows some of the cars history, and tells me the story is that this car is one of two factory GT6 prototypes assembled in Australia (more inclined to believe Paul than the DPO I bought the car from). At least it makes for a good story.
