My Spitfire/GT6 Restoration
OK, so this isn't a full restoration, more just a quick road-worthiness fix, but this is the first issue and I didn't have any reader contributions of the trials & tribulations of restoring a GT6/Spitfire. Watch this space. [more]

Again - My Spitfire/GT6 Hybrid
The first feature car has to be mine of course. It is a real bitsa, a Spitfire Mk3 body, GT6 Mk2 bonnet, seats and instrumentation and a 2000 engine. Not to mention the bodges that have been done to it over the years - but I have plans for the beastie. [more]

Triumph GT6 Ezine Restoration - My Spitfire/GT6 Hybrid

This car was bought a few years ago using my old 2.5PI Mk2 as part exchange. It was bought with the heart...

Upon getting this beastie home it was found that what I thought was a custom dash was in fact that - the old metal Spitfire dash (a central cluster of gauges) had been cut away, and the new wood (styled on a GT6 dash) just screwed into some of the remnants. No metal behind it. This started a voyage of discovery...

The wiring was dodgy, there were bastardised engine mounts to get the engine higher (it supposedly has a baffled sump - the only evidence of this is a thick piece of alloy between the block and sump - hence the raised engine), Spitfire Mk3 suspension and brakes (the front discs heavily scored), no centre console and scuttle shake in spades.

But on the plus side it had a GT6 Bonnet, a genuine hardtop, period mags, GT6 instruments, later GT6 seats and the engine is a 2000 fitted with a 2500 head. It goes like a bat out of hell and leaves me with a grin from ear to ear.

As the photos show, my Dad built me some new metal for behind the dash. We also sorted through most of the wiring, and that was as far as we went. The remaining task list is as long as my arm, but I figured I'd drive it and enjoy it for a while, then get serious about getting it sorted.
